iPhone SE 4 rumour round-up: Revamped design, camera features and more

Apple launched the first iPhone SE series in 2016, to make its smartphones a little affordable. Since then, the company has launched only three iPhone SE so far. But the rumour has it that the wait is finally over, after two years. According to the reports, the iPhone SE 4 will debut in 2025. While the SE variant is a toned down version, the upcoming iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature a few high-level features. In a new leak, tipster Sonny Dickson posted an image of an Apple case, claiming it to be the case of the iPhone SE 4.
In the image, the case resembles the looks of the iPhone 8, indicating the design language of the upcoming phone. Leaked case designs hint that the iPhone SE 4 will maintain a single-camera configuration, mirroring its predecessor, the iPhone SE 3. The mute switch and volume buttons also seem to retain their existing placement. While these similarities suggest continuity, it’s essential to note that even minor design tweaks could render existing cases incompatible with the new model. Previously, the leaks claimed that the iPhone SE 4 would look like the iPhone 14. But if the latest leak holds to be true, then this could mean that the rear panel will feature an iPhone 8-like design and the display will be the same as the iPhone 14.
Notably, a cutout above the volume controls suggests the presence of a physical mute or silent switch, contradicting speculation about an Action button. This could indicate Apple has opted to retain the traditional switch instead of adopting the Action button introduced in iPhone 15 Pro models.

Display: The iPhone SE 4 is expected to come with a 6.1-inch OLED display, a significant leap from its predecessor’s smaller LCD screen. This upgrade brings sharper contrast, deeper blacks, and a more immersive viewing experience, aligning the SE closer to Apple’s flagship models. Coupled with a sleeker design featuring minimal bezels, it borrows heavily from the iPhone 14’s aesthetic, giving users a more modern feel at an affordable price.

Camera: The rumour has it that the iPhone SE 4 will sport a 48-megapixel primary camera, which is a big step-up over the iPhone SE 3’s 12-megapixel shooters. With the potential inclusion of computational photography features, the SE 4’s camera could be a versatile tool for everyday users who want high-quality photos without spending top dollar on a flagship model.
Chipset: The key upgrade for the upcoming iPhone SE 4. The speculations suggest that the iPhone SE 4 might be the first phone to feature Apple’s own 5G modem. However, various reports indicate that Apple’s prototype modems have encountered multiple technical issues and setbacks. The iPhone SE 4’s expected A18 chip and up to 8GB RAM ensure seamless performance for multitasking, gaming, and AI-powered tasks. With Apple Intelligence support, it offers advanced features at a budget-friendly price, making it a compelling choice for those seeking flagship-level capabilities without breaking the bank.
Battery: Battery life is also set for an upgrade. Borrowing the 3,279mAh battery from the iPhone 14, the SE 4 promises longer-lasting power, enhanced by its efficient A18 chip and OLED display. This means users can expect all-day battery life even with heavy usage.
